5:44 pm	2 eyes + 2 eyes = 4 eyes I had an eye exam today. I'm getting glasses. I was having trouble reading, but apparently I'm myopic. John Dean, a key Watergate figure, wrote in a June 2003 column for a legal website, that, "To put it bluntly, if Bush has taken Congress and the nation into war based on bogus information, he is cooked... Manipulation or deliberate misuse of national security intelligence data, if proven, could be a 'high crime' under the Constitution's impeachment clause." Of course, impeachment requires a 2/3rds vote. I guess we'll see what happens as the case begins to unravel. These things certainly take time. 7:05 pm	Interesting - Good Read In another post you stated something to the extent of “Jesus has been verified outside the Bible. And I am not in a position today to debate the issue of whether Jesus existed or not. But I like to tell you of a Christian that I watched in another debate forum change into a debater against the historical evidence of Jesus. In the beginning, this Christian (drmcf) came into our forum and spoke of Jesus having historical evidence outside of the bible to support that Jesus existed. After a few rounds of debate, this Christian went on vacation. When he came back, he told us that over his vacation, he studied hard to find the historical evidence of Jesus so that he would be better prepared to debate again. But, his position change. I think he still believed in God. And perhaps still a Christian to some extent. I say this because I have never seen anyone give up religion over the course of several days of study. But his position did change on the historical evidence part. Later on, another Christian came to our debate forum and posted that there was historical evidence of Jesus. He stated 7 sources. Drmcf replied back right away with what he felt he learned. This post below is a copy of that reply that drmcf made to counter the 7 sources that this other Christian made. I myself have not look into this. But I thought you may like to read it. I thought I lost it, but I finally found the hard copy that I saved. Drmcf Lets look at your 7 references; 1. He is mentioned in the Dead Sea Scolls, which have been buried since the 1st century AD Drmcf reply: The Dead Sea Scrolls are divided into two groups, both from different times. The Qumran are scrolls which were written between 300 BCE to 65BC (these obviously do not mention Jesus), and then there are the others that do mention Jesus, the earliest of these dates to around 70 AD, and they all are copies of biblical scripture, so this is using the bible to prove the bible. Still no proof 2. He is mentioned by Josephus, born shortly after the evens of the cross and therefore was surrounded by those Jews who, at the least, had hated and rejected Jesus. Drmcf reply: Josephus; (The only contemporary reference). Of the many volumes of works by Josephus this is the only mention of Jesus, and most religious scholars admit this is a forgery. There are many reasons to think that this is a forgery, one is that this was not brought to light until 400 AD even though this was written in the times of Jesus, the second is that the wording is not in line with his works. The third is that when looking at it in the context of the full chapter you will see that it does not fit into the time line of the first 2 paragraphs and the 4th, the 4th paragraph should come directly after the second paragraph making it appearant that it was inserted. Still no proof. 3. He is mentioned by the Governor of Asia, Cornelius Tacitus, in his annals. Drmcf reply: The Annals were written in 115 AD hardly first hand, not contemporary. ((((((Hence to suppress the rumor, he (Nero) falsely charged with the guilt, and punished Christians, who were hated for their enormities. Christus, the founder of the name, was put to death by Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea in the reign of Tiberius))))) In this reference to Jesus he is only explaining the origins of Christianity, there is not hard evidence given, it only states what the beliefs of Christians was, and is to this day and has no historical value. Still no proof. 4. He is mentioned by Suetonius, a Roman Historian. Drmcf repy: I will leave the fact that this, being written in 120 AD is not a contemporary account. Lets look at this passage: ((((((As the Jews were making constant disturbances at the instigation of Chrestus, he expelled them from Rome))))))) I am going to assume you are saying this Chrestus is Jesus. Lets look who Suetonius says threw out this “Chrestus”, Claudius is the emperor that Suetonius says threw this Chrestus out of Rome, and Claudius was emperor from 41-54 AD…. At that time Jesus was already gone so this can not be about Jesus. Still no proof. 5. He is mentioned by Pliny the Younger (not directly, but indirectly) Drmcf reply: Written in 112 AD, still not a contemporary account. (((((Christians were meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verse a hymn to Christ as to a god, and bound themselves to a solemn oath, not to do wicked deeds, never commit fraud, theft, adultery, not to lie nor to deny a trust…))))) This only talks about Christians worshiping Christ, pretty common stuff, but still no proof. 6. He is mentioned by Lucian of Samosata (again indirectly) Drmcf reply: Written in the second century. ((((The Christians……worship a man to this day - the distinguished personage who introduced this new cult, and was crucified on that account…..All this they take on faith……)))) it is pretty clear this is not proof. 7. He is mentioned in a letter from Mara Bar-Serapion, a Syrian. Drmcf reply: (((((What advantage did the Athenians gain from putting Socrates to death? Famine and plague came upon them as a judgment for their crime. What advantage did the men of Samos gain from burning Pythagoras? In a moment their land was covered with sand. What advantage did the Jews gain from executing their wise King))))) I will assume that this “wise king” is a reference to Jesus (((((It was just after that their Kingdom was abolished. God justly avenged these three wise men: the Athenians died of hunger; the Samians were overwhelmed by the sea; the Jews, ruined and driven from their land, live in complete dispersion. But Socrates did not die for good; he lived on the teachings of Plato. Pythagoras did not die for good; he lived on in the statue of Hera. Nor did the wise King die for good; He lived on the teaching which he had given.)))) Again, not contemporary account, even if you use the date given of 73 AD, however it is generally agreed to actually be more like somewhere between 135-165 AD because of several other references in his letters. Also this one paragraph alone has inaccuracies, the main one being that the men of Samos did not burn Pythagoras. This still is not proof. So of the 7 people only one is confederacy and his passage is very questionable, did you know that the early church was so bad about creating forgeries that the term “pious fraud” was coined? Don’t you find it odd that someone of Jesus’s magnitude, raising the dead and making the blind see etc. etc. only has one paragraph (and a very questionable one at that) written about him. Jesus had hundreds of followers and during that time Josephus, Justus, and Philo (just to name a few) wrote volumes of historical literature and only one of them mentioned him and in only one paragraph. Don’t you think it is odd that the actual dates of Jesus’s birth and death are unknown by the early Christians? And by unknown I mean even the year is unknown, seems like they would know something as important as that. Did you know that until around 350 AD, the Sabbath was on Saturday?
